She

one woman’s story

Rocks in her bra
scarf draped over face
unabashed
eyes luminous against dark
a nomad in no land

Rises
from
ashes
drifts flower to tree
an unsweetened honeybee
nursing feeble habibis

Her sole source of sustenance olive fields
now their property

Wage and soul disparity
there it goes
dignity

They invented algebra geometry trigonometry
statistics are against her
calculated attacks
Mathematical astronomy
there goes gravity

A radical place struck from the map
missing
pages in geography lessons
missing
characters in history
missing
limbs from trees
missing

The last memory of laughs
neighbor’s yard shaded by almond trees
sounds of innocence running around
sounds of foreshadowing above

Here she goes again
an army of one
climbing up that tree
